Making a Freedom of Information Complaint

If you are not happy with the way your request for information has been handled, the fee that has been charged or if you believe that we have incorrectly applied an exemption or exception and wrongly withheld information, then you have the right to seek an internal review of Council's processing of your request.

You can seek an internal review through the office of the Director of Corporate Services via FOI@ardsandnorthdown.gov.uk.  We would ask that you submit a request for an internal review within two months from the date a response was issued. A panel of officers who were not involved with the original request will undertake the review.

We aim to issue an internal review response within 20 working days from receipt of the request for an internal review.

You can also contact the Director of Corporate Services in writing or by telephone:

Ards and North Down Borough Council
City Hall
The Castle
Bangor, BT20 4BT
Telephone: 0300 013 3333

If you are still dissatisfied after the Council has undertaken its internal review, you can ask the Information Commissioner to review the Council's decision, by contacting:

The Information Commissioner's Office - Northern Ireland
3rd Floor, 14 Cromac Place
Belfast, BT7 2JB

Email: ni@ico.org.uk

Telephone: 028 9027 8757

The Information Commissioner will expect that Council's internal complaints procedure has been completed before any appeal is made to their office.
