Health and Social Care Staff

Ards and North Down Borough Council awarded its highest honour - the Freedom of the Borough - to Health and Social Care Staff at a formal conferment ceremony in the Walled Garden Bangor Castle on Saturday 1 September 2018.

The event, attended by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Dr Robert Logan, members of the Council and health care guests and officiated by the Mayor of Ards and North Down, Cllr Richard Smart, paid tribute to the huge number of staff working within the Health and Social Care Trust who reside in the Borough - from surgeons to doctors, nurses to clinicians, porters to support staff, cleaners to administrators.

It was the first time the Freedom of the Borough was awarded since Ards and North Down Borough Council was established in 2015 and only the 34th occasion since the first conferral in the area, 88 years ago in 1930. It was unanimously agreed to confer the award in March 2018.

Over 150 guests attended the ceremony which took place in the beautiful surroundings of the Walled Garden. Guests and dignitaries were presented with a sapling oak tree from the Woodland Trust which were to be planted to remind them of the historic event for years to come.
